If you have landed on this page, it means that you are probably looking for information on what could be the right ERP for your company, or you have already identified Odoo as a candidate for this choice but want to have more information on the software.

Well, in this article we will list in a completely transparent way what the strengths and weaknesses of Odoo are, the reasons why you should choose it, and when it may not be the right software for you.

Why choose Odoo for your company

1. Odoo is Opensource: previously known as OpenERP, Odoo is an Opensource software (with the Enterprise component based on a private repository). Unlike other ERPs that offer solutions based on 'closed' code, Odoo allows levels of customization that other software in the industry can hardly guarantee. The Opensource factor, combined with the modular architecture of the system, allows for such ease of extension that Odoo can be adapted to any type of need. Odoo's flexibility is definitely an important added value when considering adopting an ERP for your company.

2. Odoo is rapidly growing: The project has very solid foundations and the parent company Odoo SA is one of the fastest-growing companies in Belgium. This allows Odoo to invest in development to continuously improve its software and add new features. Honestly, there is no ERP solution on the market that shows the levels of dynamism seen in Odoo. Within a decade, we are facing a totally different product, improved in every way, and from what we can see, we believe it will continue to grow in the coming years.

3. Odoo is supported by a large community: the parent company Odoo SA is not alone in investing in software improvements, as the project is supported by the international OCA community. Odoo OCA guarantees the project an incredible amount of opensource modules, completely free, that allow for aspects that the parent company may not be able to cover. For example, it is thanks to OCA that Odoo allows for adequate international coverage of the product, ensuring that modules are released to make the software compliant for different countries around the world. There are also many quality modules that improve its functional aspect, as well as utilities and tools that have now become recognized standards in Odoo's implementation arsenal.

4. Many ready-to-use modules: behind Odoo is an ecosystem of modules that can immediately meet many needs. In addition to the Enterprise modules and those of OCA, in the official Odoo store there are also countless third-party modules, both free and paid, that can offer interesting solutions (think, for example, of the many connectors between Odoo and various marketplaces, such as Shopify and others).

5. A growing network of partners: Odoo's network of official partners is constantly expanding. This means that more and more companies decide to choose Odoo as the ERP software to use for their clients, and developers and functional experts who know the software are constantly increasing. This results in a greater offer available for the end company that wants to adopt Odoo for their business processes.

When Odoo may not be right for you

1. Many real-time operations that require immediate response times: Despite Odoo significantly improving its performance every year, being based on a language like Python puts it in situations of weakness when it comes to processing numerous real-time calls that require immediate response times. This obviously depends on a case-by-case basis and the quality of the code in a custom project can make a difference, however, it is worth considering the opportunity to integrate towards software more specialized for that type of operation and let Odoo do the rest.

2. Born to support small-medium enterprises: Odoo brings with it a structure that has been designed to manage small-medium enterprises. The software has grown significantly in recent years and now there are several large companies that rely on this solution, however, we believe that more needs to be done to be adopted for all types of large enterprises and multinational companies. A matter of time, given the improvements presented every year.
